If you’re one of those people who goes on holiday and racks their brains to find the best, most original and most fabulous souvenir for your family or friends, then keep on reading. We’re going to give you some great tips so that when you go to Ibiza, you come home with your suitcase loaded with authentic gifts that ooze Ibiza’s soul. No magnets that end up in the fridge because you’ve no room for them, no mugs that break before they get home and none of those classic t-shirts that end up being worn as pyjamas, if they’re even used at all. Here are some products that taste and smell of the white island, some that really exude the island’s authentic essence. We’ll also give you some links in case you want to know more about these often unknown gems in Ibiza’s crown.

1. Flaós and orelletes

For lovers of good food and those who simply cannot resist a sweet treat, the best gift you can give them is a local product from the array of Ibiza’s traditional cuisine. We recommend two of Ibiza’s classic desserts:

Flaó: It is Ibiza’s dessert par excellence. It is a goat and sheep cheese cake tart with mint. The taste usually surprises those who try it for the first time. Its origins go back to the Middle Ages and although it was traditionally made on Easter Sunday, we can currently find it in restaurants and cake shops all year round. But if you’re lucky enough to meet a local family who make it at home for you, then you’re in for a real treat. A dessert that brings together tradition and flavours definitely won’t disappoint anyone.

Orelletes: Orelletes are another of Ibiza’s most traditional desserts. This dessert is traditionally eaten at weddings and is served after the banquet as a little extra. Even today it’s still normal for some couples to gift orelletes to the guests as a wedding favour, although they’ve become more popular and they can be found in many of the island’s cake shops at any time of the year. 2- Sobrasada or butifarra

For foodies yet again, another of the most delicious and sought-after foods on the island is Ibizan sobrasada (spicy pork sausage) which has an incomparable taste given the island’s level of humidity. Likewise, butifarra (Spanish sausage) has become an exquisite and indispensable cold meat in the island’s traditional gastronomy. An original gift that is also easy to transport and won’t take up too much room. More informationn here

3- Hierbas Ibicencas

If you want to get your hands on a traditional Ibizan drink, then a bottle of Hierbas Ibicencas will do the trick. It’s an aniseed-flavoured liqueur made from different herbs from Ibiza’s fields such as thyme, ruta and fennel. Plus, it’s a digestif and has been made in Ibiza for over 130 years. These recipes have been handed down from generation to generation. More information here

4- Ibiza Salt

If you’re looking for an artisanal product that tells the story of the island, then salt from Ibiza is the perfect gift. From the time of the Phoenicians, through the Carthaginians, Romans and Muslims, to Christianity, this “white gold” has been Ibiza’s most important industry, right until tourists started to flock to the island. That’s why taking home some salt from Ibiza collected in the Ses Salines Natural Park, means getting hold of a jar of the island’s origins and culture. Plus, the person who you give it to will have a cool accessory to show off in their kitchen.

If you’re looking for a unique and exclusive piece, it’s a good idea to peruse some of the many hippy markets, such as Las Dalias or Punta Arabí, where you can find goods like handmade costume jewellery, clothes, art or toys. Plus, here you can spend your time listening to live music or having an ice cold drink to cool down on a hot day on the island.
