Are you wondering what to do to round off your stay in Ibiza, as well as making the most of the sun and its beaches? In this blog, we tell you all about Ibiza’s medieval fair–an event not to be missed!

Each year, from May 11th to 14th, Ibiza’s colourful Medieval Fair returns to the city, with guaranteed fun and entertainment, so come and enjoy it. The winding streets of Ibiza’s old quarter, Dalt Vila, are transformed into a scenario typical of the Middle Ages, conjuring up the island’s rich history.

The streets are decorated with flags and banners and the city takes on a charming medieval air, with a wide variety of artisanal products representative of the ancient cultures associated with Ibiza.

A multitude of market stalls can be found, with craftwork, gastronomic products, music, jugglers and acrobats, all set in historic style to replicate the hustle and bustle of a medieval market, with minstrels and circus performers everywhere. Check out this video of last year’s Medieval Fair to get an idea of the spectacle that you’ll see: https://youtu.be/zcFCovpPncE

All this happens in the narrow streets inside the defensive walls that encircle the top part of the city.  We should also add that Ibiza’s city walls and its fortified area are considered by the UNESCO to be the best conserved acropolis in the Mediterranean.

In this part of Dalt Vila, the city is converted into one big open-air theatre. Dalt Vila, by the way, is the name given to the top part of the city of Ibiza, the capital of the island, where its old quarter can be found.  All the acts that you will see are inspired by the different civilizations who form part of Ibiza’s rich history, because this is a city that has been inhabited by Phoenicians, Romans and Arabs.

The streets fill with people who have flocked there to see its shows and activities, all with a strong dose of realism, from Arab dances to archery. If you’d like to find out a bit more about Ibiza’s history, you can round off the enjoyment with one of the choir concerts in Dalt Vila’s churches or the folklore exhibitions in the Town Hall’s 16th century cloister.

Make sure you look at the full programme of events, which will be published very shortly, so as not to miss out on any of the shows and performances on offer during this magical trip back in history. Medieval Ibiza
